Observations showed that two 7-seat cars and a pickup truck traveling from Can Tho to Vinh Long collided when approaching the middle of Can Tho Bridge. The pickup truck hit the rear of the 7-seat car in front, then another 7-seat car behind continued to hit the rear of the pickup truck. The collision damaged all three vehicles, with the front and rear of the vehicles dented.
The accident occurred at a time when many people from the West were returning to the Southeast provinces after the Tet holiday. This caused serious traffic congestion on the roads leading to Can Tho Bridge.
Although traffic police were present at the scene to regulate traffic, due to the large number of vehicles, many roads leading to Can Tho bridge were locally congested.
The Nam Song Hau National Highway towards IC3 intersection was jammed in all three lanes, stretching for kilometers. The motorbike lane also moved slowly.
From Hung Loi Bridge (Nam Song Hau National Highway) to IC3 intersection, the line of cars moved slowly.
After many hours of regulation, the Traffic Police of Can Tho City Police towed three vehicles from the scene, traffic on Can Tho Bridge returned to normal.
