At noon on the 4th day of the Lunar New Year (February 1), a series of accidents occurred on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway through Long Thanh District (Dong Nai), causing a traffic jam of more than 8 km from the National Highway 51 intersection to Long Thanh Bridge in the direction from Dong Nai to Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the records, 4 cars crashed in a row because they did not keep a safe distance when they just crossed Long Thanh bridge. The collision caused severe damage to many vehicles, including one with deployed airbags. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
Upon receiving the news, the Traffic Police force of Highway Patrol Team No. 6 (under the Traffic Police Department, Ministry of Public Security) was present to examine the scene and investigate the cause of the incident.
Because the accident happened right at the peak time after Tet holiday, the number of vehicles pouring in from the Central and Southeast regions was very large, the traffic jam lasted for more than an hour.
Traffic police were forced to close the entrance from Highway 51 and redirect traffic to Highway 1 to divert traffic. By 2 p.m., the vehicles involved in the accident had been removed and traffic was gradually returning to normal.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
According to a representative of Highway Traffic Control Patrol Team No. 6, the fourth day of Tet is the time when many families from the Central region return to Ho Chi Minh City after a long holiday, causing congestion on many sections of the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay and Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay highways.
Traffic police recommend that drivers pay attention to keeping a safe distance when driving and comply with traffic regulations of the authorities to avoid unfortunate incidents.
