On the morning of May 20, Phan Thiet Border Guard Station under Thanh Hai Border Guard Station (Lam Dong province) said that it had received a report about fishing vessel BTh 98849 TS encountering an incident while operating at sea.
According to initial information, the fishing vessel is owned by Mr. Dinh Bay (resident of Phan Thiet ward). The vessel is 18.75m long, 700CV capacity, engaged in seine fishing. There are 17 crew members on board captained by Mr. Pham Hung (born 1971, residing in Phan Thiet ward).
During operation at sea, the fishing boat had a technical problem, lost its propeller, so it lost its ability to move and had to drift freely at sea.

The location of the ship encountering the incident is about 70 nautical miles northeast of Con Dao and about 110 nautical miles southeast of Phan Thiet port. At the time of the incident, this area had Southwest winds of level 3-4, waves from 1-2m high.
After receiving the information, the Border Guard Command of Lam Dong province directed Thanh Hai Border Guard Station to coordinate with the ship owner's family to maintain contact and monitor the health status of the crew members.
At the same time, coastal border posts have notified ships operating near the area to support rescue.
The incident was also reported to the Command of Naval Region 2, the Command of Coast Guard Region 3, the Command of Ho Chi Minh City Border Guard, the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Region 3 and Phan Thiet Coastal Information Station to coordinate support for the distressed fishing vessel.
