At about 7 am on May 16, Thanh Lan Border Guard Station received a report from Mr. Ngo Van Phong (born 1970, residing in Van Don special zone), owner of fishing vessel QN-43566-TS, about the vehicle having a engine failure while traveling from Thanh Lan sea area to Van Don special zone.
At the time of the incident, the sea area had big waves and strong winds, causing the ship to lose its ability to move and drift at sea.
On board, in addition to the vehicle owner, there were also 3 crew members including: Vu Tien Hai (born 1981, residing in Bai Chay ward), To Quoc Tuan (born 1980, residing in Hong Gai ward) and Dinh Ba Thi (born 1982, residing in Ha Lam ward).
Immediately after receiving the information, Thanh Lan Border Guard Station established a search and rescue team of 6 officers and soldiers using motorboats to approach the scene.
At about 8:30 am, rescue forces found the distressed vessel at coordinates 21°00'42"N - 107°51′09"E, belonging to Thanh Lan sea area, Co To special zone.
All 4 people on board were safely rescued from the drifting vehicle. The vehicle is currently drifting into the Dau Chau beach area, Thanh Lan.
After successfully rescuing, Thanh Lan Border Guard Station coordinated with medical forces to check the health of the fishermen. Currently, the health and spirit of all 4 people are stable.
