According to Lao Dong on December 25, at the apartment building at 440 Tran Hung Dao (District 5), demolition work is underway. The building has been surrounded by corrugated iron and scaffolding, and workers are installing tarpaulins around the building to ensure the safety of surrounding residents during the demolition process.
According to the announcement of the People's Committee of Ward 11, District 5, the demolition work started on December 12.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Linh (District 5, living near the apartment building) said that the deterioration of this apartment building happened faster after the residents moved out, and that she had discovered many pieces of brick and concrete falling from this apartment building. "I hope the demolition will take place quickly, ensuring the safety of the surrounding residents, and at the same time, the construction of a new project can be started soon," Ms. Linh shared.
Previously, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai assigned the Department of Construction to issue a document guiding and directing the proposal and recommendation of the District 5 People's Committee regarding the urgent demolition of apartment building No. 440 Tran Hung Dao.
District 5 People's Committee urgently organizes the demolition of the apartment building according to the approved plan; ensuring absolute safety of life and property of the residential community and neighboring structures.
After completing the demolition, the People's Committee of District 5 will preside over and coordinate with the Department of Construction and the Standing Committee of Steering Committee 167 to continue handling the areas of houses and land belonging to public assets in accordance with regulations, and at the same time develop a plan and implement compensation, support and resettlement for households at apartment building No. 440 Tran Hung Dao Street to submit to competent authorities for approval in accordance with legal regulations.
Apartment building 440 Tran Hung Dao Street was built before 1975, has 3 floors and a terrace with 21 apartments, of which 19 are privately owned and 2 are managed by District 5 Public Service Company Limited.
In early March 2023, District 5 People's Committee completed the relocation of households in apartment building 440 Tran Hung Dao to new residences in An Phu apartment building (District 6, Ho Chi Minh City).
According to the 2017 inspection conclusion, this old apartment building has a danger level of "class D house", the structural load-bearing capacity cannot meet the requirements of normal use, the house appears to be in a state of overall danger, and needs to be relocated and demolished urgently. After demolition, the land area suitable for planning is 170m2, so it is not enough to rebuild a new apartment building. It is expected that this land will be invested in the construction of commercial and service works.
