According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Le Cong Thanh, in the era of the nation's achievement, besides the two -digit economic development goals in the coming period, we will also have to focus on environmental protection. Through the National Scientific Conference on controlling and improving the quality of the air environment in Vietnam, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the UNDP and WHO representatives took place in 2 days 24 - 25.4, the Ministry called on international partners and organizations to continue to accompany and support Vietnam in technology, knowledge and resources to effectively implement the work of air quality management in the coming period.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Le Cong Thanh said that air pollution is one of the serious environmental challenges in Vietnam, especially in large cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Monitoring data and air quality index AQI in these cities are often average and tend to be poor, increasing pollution in recent times, the concentration of fine dust PM2.5 in these two cities often exceeds national technical standards on surrounding air quality and much exceeds the WHO's recommendations.

The air pollution situation not only lasts seasonally, but also spreads in terms of space, directly affecting the health, socio-economic development and daily life of the people. The causes of air pollution come from many different sources, including: Emissions from vehicles using fossil fuels; Construction and renovation of urban infrastructure are not well controlled; Emissions from industrial production facilities; Incineration of straw, waste and outdoor biomass.
In Hanoi, air pollution often increases sharply from September to April of the following year due to unfavorable weather factors, counter-termic phenomena, calm winds, and little rain. Meanwhile, in Ho Chi Minh City, many assessments and studies believe that high traffic density and industrial activities are the main causes.
Facing the increase in the situation of air pollution, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Unit, is the Department of Environment, which has been coordinating with ministries, branches, localities and businesses to implement many key tasks, such as: Developing tasks and inventory projects in the Northern and Southern key economic sector for analyzing, evaluating data and building models. "Currently, we are running testing the air quality forecasting model for 48 hours at the Northern Environmental Monitoring Center" - Deputy Minister Le Cong Thanh said.

According to Mr. Thanh, the Ministry is finalizing the National Action Plan to overcome pollution and manage air quality, with specific goals for the period 2025 - 2030, with each group of solutions such as energy, waste sources, transportation, and construction.
At the same time, the Ministry has proactively carried out international cooperation activities and mobilized resources. Coordinate with international organizations such as UNDP, ADB, Worldbank, UNEP corporations and general companies (Vingroup) to implement pilot projects, develop a network of air quality rapid measurement stations, promote technology transfer, green transport and mobilize financial and technical resources to improve air quality.
