On September 7, the Quang Tri Provincial Military Command said that Team No. 2 for Searching and Repatriating Martyrs' Remains, Political Department, Provincial Military Command had just surveyed, searched and repatriated a collective grave with 2 martyrs' remains in Thanh Co neighborhood, Quang Tri ward.
Previously, the unit received information about the discovery of signs of suspected martyrs' remains in the construction area within the premises of Agribank Thanh Co Quang Tri Branch.
Team 2 for Searching and Repatriating Martyrs' Remains conducted surveys, searches and discovered many artifacts of soldiers such as tanks, ammunition boxes, AK ammunition boxes, backpacks...
Through expanding the search, functional forces discovered many tibias, femurs, vertebrae... interspersed with bricks and stones, including 4 femurs. Through the collected signs, the unit determined that this was a mass grave of 2 martyrs' remains, believed to have sacrificed themselves when the bunker was bombed.
The remains of the martyrs have been brought to be kept at Agribank Thanh Co Quang Tri Branch. Officers and staff of the unit organized protection, care and incense offerings according to regulations.
Currently, Team No. 2 for Searching and Repatriating Martyrs' Remains is coordinating with functional agencies to expand the search scope in the above area.
