Metro Line 2 Project (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong) passes through Districts 1, 3, 10, 12, Tan Binh and Tan Phu, with a total clearance area of more than 251,000 m², affecting 585 households and organizations.
According to the HCM City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR), up to now, the districts have basically completed the procedures for issuing land recovery decisions, reaching 100% (585/585 cases). The site handover rate reached 98.3% (575/585 cases).
In District 3, 109/112 cases have been handed over, with only 3 cases remaining in the process.
In particular, at S3 station (Dan Chu), the District 3 Police headquarters is located in the clearance area. The District 3 People's Committee has reported to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to coordinate with the Ministry of Public Security to resolve the issue, and MAUR has proposed to temporarily hand over the area outside the fence for construction.
For the remaining two cases, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City has instructed the People's Committee of District 3 to enforce land recovery to hand over the site.
In Tan Binh district, 332/339 cases have been handed over, the remaining 7 cases at stations S6 (Pham Van Hai), S7 (Bay Hien) and S9 (Ba Queo) have not yet completed the procedures.
Regarding the land and house at 56 Truong Chinh, the People's Committee of Tan Binh District has been instructed to carry out enforcement. Similarly, the public land at 941 Cach Mang Thang Tam has also been recommended to be demolished soon for handover.
In cases where land has not been handed over, Tan Binh District has requested the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to promptly resolve the second complaint. Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong has directed a review and advised on resolution.
In parallel with land acquisition, the relocation of technical infrastructure works such as electricity, water, and telecommunications at 11 locations along Metro Line 2 is being implemented. These items are expected to be completed by the end of the second quarter of 2025, preparing for the main construction phase when the site is fully handed over.
Bidding for major construction and equipment packages is expected to take place in 2025. Contractors will begin construction of underground stations, tunnels and elevated sections by the end of 2025.
According to plan, Metro Line 2 will be constructed in 5 years and is expected to be completed by the end of 2030.
Metro Line 2 was approved in 2010, with an initial investment of 1.3 billion USD (26,000 billion VND). By 2019, the total investment had been adjusted to 2.1 billion USD (nearly 47,900 billion VND).
This Metro line is more than 11 km long, of which 9.2 km is underground and the rest is an elevated section leading to Tham Luong depot (District 12). The project includes 9 underground stations and 1 elevated station.
When put into operation, Metro Line 2 will connect with Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) at Ben Thanh Station (District 1), and connect with many other Metro lines in the future. This will help people move conveniently along the East - West axis of Ho Chi Minh City, contributing to reducing traffic congestion in the city center.
