HCMC is about to start construction of 3 key transport projects worth over VND52,500 billion

HCMC - Metro No. 2, Nguyen Khoi bridge, Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh expressway access road with a total capital of more than VND 52.500 billion will start construction in the last months of 2025.

Metro No. 2

Of the three projects, Metro Line 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong) is a project that people have been waiting for and waiting for for for the past 15 years.

Approved in 2010 but continuously delayed in starting construction, Metro Line 2 has a total investment of nearly VND47,900 billion (more than 2 billion USD), connecting the city center with the Northwest gateway.

The project has completed site clearance and is accelerating the relocation of technical infrastructure such as electricity, water supply and drainage, lighting, and telecommunications.

The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR) has approved a consulting package worth more than 175 billion VND to prepare a feasibility study report on adjustment and technical design (FEED), and at the same time support bidding for the main construction packages.

At the same time, Ho Chi Minh City is working with Truong Hai Group Joint Stock Company ( Thaco) - an investor interested in the project to agree on an implementation plan, from investment form, capital source, technology to progress.

The city aims to start Metro Line 2 construction by the end of 2025 and complete it by 2030.

Nguyen Khoi Bridge and Road

The Nguyen Khoi Bridge and Road project, nearly 5 km long (including 2.5 km of bridges and 2.3 km of roads) plays an important role in connecting the South with the center of Ho Chi Minh City.

The project starts from D1 Street (old District 7), crosses Te Canal and Ben Nghe Canal, connects to Vo Van Kiet Avenue (old District 1), and has branches connecting Tran Xuan Soan, Ton That Thuyet and Vo Van Kiet.

Approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council in 2016 with an investment capital of VND1,250 billion, the project has been stalled many times due to lack of capital.

After many adjustments, at the end of 2023, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council approved the policy of raising the total capital to more than VND 3,700 billion from the city budget.

The Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Board) said that the project is expected to start construction in November 2025 and be completed by the end of 2027.

To date, more than VND 929 billion has been advanced to pay compensation to the people. Some households in the old District 4 have handed over the land, and it is expected that all site clearance work will be completed in October.

Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway

In parallel with the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) expanding the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway on a 22 km section, the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Department will start the project to expand the access road from the An Phu intersection to Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 2 in October.

The project is 3.2 km long, with a total investment of more than 915 billion VND from the city budget.

The road will be expanded from 4 to 8 lanes, bringing the total road surface width to 36 m.

The bridges on the route such as Muong Kenh Bridge and Do Xuan Hop Overpass will also be expanded, with a total width of up to 37 m.

The project is expected to be completed in 2027, synchronized with major projects such as the expressway expansion project, An Phu intersection, My Thuy intersection.

When put into use, the approach road will contribute to reducing traffic pressure in the East, while promoting the effectiveness of regional connectivity, especially connectivity with Long Thanh International Airport, which will be completed by the end of this year.
