HCMC requests to immediately dismantle advertising pillars and electrical cabinets occupying sidewalks

MINH QUÂN |

Ho Chi Minh City requires the immediate removal of advertising signs, electrical cabinets, and water meters illegally installed on the sidewalk, blocking the path of pedestrians and people with disabilities.

The above request was made by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction in an urgent document sent to relevant units on December 8.

According to the Department of Construction, through review, in Ho Chi Minh City, there are currently many advertising billboards, political cheering billboards, BTS multi-purpose information stations, electrical cabinets, water meter cabinets... installed but have not yet been approved by the road management agency.

Many locations are located within the sidewalk, narrowing the space for pedestrians and people with disabilities, even obstructing the view of drivers at intersections and curved roads, potentially causing traffic insecurity and spoiling the urban landscape.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction requires urgent inspection of the entire system of works on sidewalks, especially at intersections blocking or covering up signs and traffic lights.

Units must coordinate with the Management Board of Investment and Construction Projects of the area, construction management units, Department of Culture and Sports, and the specialized inspection room of the Department of Construction to strictly handle cases of construction and installation without a license.

The Department of Construction requires the immediate dismantling of works blocking the paths of pedestrians and people with disabilities; obscuring the system of signs and traffic lights; not ensuring safety and urban aesthetics. In the immediate future, focus on handling the situation completely in the central area of Ho Chi Minh City.

In addition, the Department of Construction assigned the Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center to review all political advertising incentive contracts (with and without fees), requiring units to properly implement the approved propaganda content.

repeated violations must be compiled, a handling plan must be proposed, and reported to the Department of Construction for submission to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for direction.

Based on the inspection results, the specialized inspection room of the Department of Construction will strictly handle violations according to its authority, and at the same time request the immediate dismantling of illegal constructions to ensure traffic safety, returning open sidewalk space to people.
