On the morning of April 21, according to the report of the provincial Department of Home Affairs, the whole province had nearly 464 thousand voters participating in voting on the draft project to reorganize Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces, reaching 99.48% of households in the province.
Regarding the policy of merging Bac Giang and Bac Ninh provinces, the voter approval rate is 98.53% of the total number of households in the province; there are 136 commune-level administrative units with 99% or more of voters in agreement, of which 6 units have 100% of voters in agreement.
For the draft project to reorganize commune-level administrative units, there are 103 commune-level administrative units with a rate of 99% or more of voters agreeing to the merger, of which 4 units have reached a rate of 100%.
According to the plan, after completing the consultation with voters, the People's Committees at the commune and district levels will hold a meeting to approve the resolution approving the policy of arranging administrative units at the commune and provincial levels.
The Department of Home Affairs of Bac Giang province will continue to closely coordinate with departments, branches and localities to complete the dossier of the Projects to submit to competent authorities in accordance with regulations and planning progress.
Previously, on April 20, localities in Bac Giang province simultaneously organized a public consultation with voters representing households in the whole province on the policy of arranging commune-level administrative units of Bac Giang province and the policy of merging Bac Giang and Bac Ninh provinces and Bac Giang province.
According to the draft Project to reorganize Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces, the two provinces will merge and have a new name, Bac Ninh province, the place of the Political - Administrative Center is Bac Giang city.
The project clearly states that the arrangement of Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces is in accordance with historical factors, traditional culture, scale, economic structure, and development orientation to ensure compliance with factors.
After the merger, the new Bac Ninh province will have an economic scale of 439.8 trillion VND, ranking 5th in the country, after the localities: Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Hai Phong and Dong Nai.
At the meeting with voters of Hiep Hoa district (Bac Giang) on the afternoon of April 16, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh said that after the merger, the new Bac Ninh province will have a very large role and position, the economic scale is ranked 5th in the country, with a population of about 3.5 million people, an area of over 4,700km2, and at the same time, it is planned to build a new Bac Ninh to become a smart city, a centrally-run city by 2030.
