On September 4, speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Huu Dung - Vice Chairman of Tho Xuan District People's Committee, Thanh Hoa Province said that regarding the recent landslide on the Chu River bank (section through Tho Hai Commune), the district has been handling it according to the 4-on-site principle such as dredging, piling and lining the landslide site.
Along with that, the district has proposed to the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province to have a plan and arrange funds to soon build embankments on the eroded section. "This year, the erosion is happening strongly because the mainstream flows straight into the riverbank. Therefore, the district is coordinating with the relevant sectors to survey to dredge and straighten the flow, avoiding further erosion of the riverbank" - Mr. Dung informed.
According to Mr. Dung, the weather is forecast to be more rainy and complicated in the coming time, so the district and other sectors have developed plans and are on duty continuously to ensure the safety of property, crops and the lives of households at risk of being affected.
Previously, as Lao Dong reported , recently, due to prolonged heavy rains and large water flows from upstream, the Chu River bank (section through Tho Hai commune, Tho Xuan district, Thanh Hoa province) has seriously eroded, causing people to worry.
The riverbank landslide (through Hai Mau and Hai Thanh villages, Tho Hai commune) is hundreds of meters long, tens of meters deep and tends to continue to increase.
In addition to landslides, dozens of sinkholes also appeared in the area on people's production land. The incident caused some of the people's crop areas to be washed away and buried.
According to many residents of Hai Thanh village, landslides and subsidence have been occurring since 2023, however, the recent period has been the most serious. If not handled promptly, the landslide situation may become more complicated.
