On October 16, the Can Tho City Hydrometeorological Station issued a flood warning bulletin in the area with a level 2 risk of natural disasters due to high tides.
According to the news, in the past 2 days, the water level on the rivers and canals of Can Tho City has risen due to the influence of floods from upstream combined with the high tide of the 15th day of the 9th lunar month.
The highest peak tide level on October 16 on the Hau River at Can Tho Hydrological Station Hmax at 3:30 a.m. was 2.01 m, exceeding alarm level III by 0.01 m (0.10 m lower than the same period in 2023 - September 14 of the lunar calendar).
It is forecasted that the peak water level on rivers and canals in Can Tho City will continue to rise and exceed alert level III (2.00m) starting from October 16 and will continue to remain above alert level III until the end of October 22.
The time of daily peak tide is early morning from 5am - 8am and late afternoon from 5pm - 8pm.
According to the Can Tho City Hydrometeorological Station, this is a high tide with a peak tide exceeding the third alarm level by 0.18 - 0.28m. It is necessary to pay attention to bad weather due to the influence of cold air from the Northeast monsoon, so during the days of high tide combined with heavy rain, it will cause widespread flooding in low-lying areas and inner-city areas along the river.
Previously, the highest historical tide peak in Can Tho City occurred on the evening of October 12, 2022 (the high tide of the 15th day of the 9th lunar month in 2022); the highest water level at Can Tho station on Hau River at 7:00 p.m. was 2.27 m; exceeding alarm level III by 0.27 m.
Thus, with the forecast of the high tide on the 15th day of the 9th lunar month in 2024, the peak tide will exceed the alarm level III by 0.18 - 0.28m, meaning it is likely to exceed the historical peak tide in 2022 and set a new historical peak tide in Can Tho City.
