On October 3, the Can Tho City Hydrometeorological Station issued a flood warning bulletin in the area with a level 2 risk of natural disasters due to high tides.
According to the news, in the past 2 days, the water level on the rivers and canals of Can Tho City has changed little according to the high tide period in early September of the lunar calendar. The highest water level at 7:00 a.m. this morning (October 3) on the Hau River at the Can Tho Hydrological Station at 5:30 a.m. was 1.84 m, exceeding the alarm level 1 by 0.04 m.
It is forecasted that the peak water level on rivers and canals in Can Tho City will continue to rise and will likely peak from October 4 to 6, which is the 2nd to 4th of the 9th lunar month.
The highest tide peak at Can Tho station on Hau River during this high tide is likely to exceed alert level 3 by 2.01 - 2.11m, 0.01 - 0.11m higher than alert level 3.
The time of daily peak tide is early morning from 6 - 8 am and late afternoon from 6 - 8 pm.
According to the Can Tho City Hydrometeorological Station, this is a high tide with a peak tide exceeding the alarm level 3. Therefore, people need to pay attention to bad weather due to the influence of cold air from the Northeast monsoon, so during the days of high tide combined with heavy rain, it will cause widespread flooding in low-lying areas and inner-city riverside areas of the city.
Previously, on September 26, the People's Committee of Can Tho City issued a document on implementing proactive solutions to respond to floods combined with high tides at the end of August and September of the lunar calendar.
According to the document, the City People's Committee requested the Can Tho City Hydrometeorological Station to continue monitoring and continuously updating information on weather and hydrological conditions. The City Police Department will increase forces and vehicles to direct traffic, proactively develop plans to overcome traffic incidents and ensure traffic safety... The Standing Committee of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue of sectors and localities will organize 24/7 duty during high tides, floods and storms to monitor and grasp all situations related to natural disaster prevention in the areas under their management.
