Theft is rampant at night
Quang Ngai Province Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital has a capacity of 600 beds. This is a hospital with a large number of patients coming for examination and treatment. However, the burning issue is that in recent years, theft has occurred frequently in the hospital.
According to the reporter, the main subjects treated at the hospital are women who have just given birth and children. Most of the caregivers of the pregnant women are women. These are all subjects with poor health, so the thieves take advantage to act.
On the morning of December 18, a reporter witnessed Vo Xuan Huy (residing in Tinh Giang commune, Son Tinh district, Quang Ngai province) losing his cell phone. Huy said that at around 5:30 a.m. the same day, while charging his phone at the hospital, a thief stole his phone worth nearly 24 million VND. Immediately after that, Huy called the hospital security, but they informed him that the camera system was faulty and could not extract the image. He also did not receive detailed information about the incident.
"On the morning of December 21, I went to Tran Phu Ward Police to report the incident. The phone contained a lot of important personal information, so when it was lost, I was very worried," Huy shared.
Similarly, Ms. Ha Thi My Linh in Di Lang town, Son Ha district said that she was taking care of her child at the Quang Ngai Province Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital. On the evening of December 16, while she was sleeping, a thief stole a cell phone. However, when asked by a reporter whether she reported it to the security guard or hospital management, Ms. Linh said she did not report it.
What do hospital leaders say?
During many days at the Quang Ngai Province Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital, reporters noted that most patients and their families who spent the night at the hospital were very worried about the rampant theft.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tuyen - Director of Quang Ngai Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital said that there have been cases of patients and their relatives having their property stolen while being treated at the hospital. The hospital has repeatedly requested the authorities to take measures to prevent this, but it has not been able to completely handle it. According to Mr. Tuyen, to prevent theft, the hospital has increased the installation of security cameras for monitoring, but it is very difficult to completely handle theft in the hospital, because patients and their relatives can steal from each other.
According to Mr. Tuyen, the hospital has 10 security guards. The reporter asked, for a long time, public opinion has been questioning whether there is a situation where some security guards collude or turn a blind eye to thieves operating in the hospital? Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tuyen affirmed that there is absolutely no such thing as hospital staff colluding with thieves.
