Replying to Lao Động Newspaper on August 8, Deputy Chairman of Điện Bàn Town People's Committee, Mrs. Nguyễn Thị Thúy Hằng, stated that, in accordance with the direction of Chairman of Quảng Nam Province People's Committee, Mr. Lê Văn Dũng, regarding the organization of public opinion collection on the removal of the deteriorated Dũng sĩ Điện Ngọc monument and the construction of a new one with a budget of 8.85 trillion VND, the town is currently implementing the task.
However, according to Mrs. Hằng, the town of Điện Bàn has not yet determined the scope and target of public opinion collection, whether it is within the town of Điện Bàn, the entire province of Quảng Nam, or a wider area. Even the time and method of organizing public opinion collection are still being studied.
"Currently, the town has assigned the Investment and Construction Management Board of Điện Bàn Town - the unit responsible for the investor - to reassess the feasibility and appropriateness of the new project to build a Dũng sĩ Điện Ngọc monument. Develop a plan to organize public opinion collection, determine the scope, time, and method of implementation... When the results are available, next week (from August 12) will submit to the People's Committee, the Standing Board of the Town Party Committee of Điện Bàn for consideration and review before submitting to relevant departments and agencies for advice to the Provincial People's Committee" - Mrs. Hằng said.
Earlier, the People's Committee of Điện Bàn Town had submitted a report proposing the investment plan for the project to upgrade the Dũng sĩ Điện Ngọc monument to the Provincial People's Committee of Quảng Nam.
The estimated total investment for the new monument is approximately 8.85 trillion VND, from the town's budget. The implementation period is expected to be from 2025 to 2026.
The old Dũng sĩ Điện Ngọc monument was built and put into use in 2007, with a budget of 1.5 billion VND, to commemorate the heroic achievements and sacrifices of the 7 Dũng sĩ Điện Ngọc in the battle against the Americans and their accomplices in the Giếng Nhà Nhì area on June 24, 1962.
After 17 years, the monument has deteriorated and is no longer suitable for the overall plan in the area. The monument's courtyard is now lower than the surrounding intersection, causing flooding during the rainy season, and structural damage...
Therefore, the local authorities have established a project to upgrade the monument. Prior to the proposal of Điện Bàn Town, Chairman of Quảng Nam Province People's Committee, Mr. Lê Văn Dũng, requested the local authorities to report and clarify the information related to the plan to dismantle the old monument and invest in the new project, and submit it to the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism for compilation and advice. At the same time, consider organizing public opinion collection to ensure community consensus and unity in the implementation of the project.
