Propose a New Monument Worth 88.5 Billion VND
On August 6, in an interview with Lao động's reporter, a leader of Điện Bàn town said that the locality will reassess the feasibility and appropriateness of the project to build a new monument for Dũng sĩ Điện Ngọc, replacing the old monument that has deteriorated.
Earlier, the UBND of Điện Bàn town had submitted a report proposing the investment policy for the project to upgrade the Dũng sĩ Điện Ngọc monument (located in Điện Ngọc ward), to the UBND of Quảng Nam province.
The estimated total investment for building the new monument is approximately 88.5 billion VND, from the budget of Điện Bàn town. The implementation period is expected to be from 2025 to 2026.
According to the project's explanatory document, the Dũng sĩ Điện Ngọc monument was built and put into use in 2007, with an investment of 1.5 billion VND, to commemorate the heroic deeds and sacrifices of the 7 Dũng sĩ Điện Ngọc during the battle against the Americans and their accomplices in the Giếng Nhà Nhì area on June 24, 1962.
After 17 years, the monument has deteriorated severely and is no longer suitable for the overall planning in the area. The monument's grounds are lower than the surrounding intersections, causing flooding during the rainy season, and the structure has cracks.
In addition, the monument does not have a reception house and a display of artifacts, a security house, and a public restroom to serve visitors.
Therefore, the investment in upgrading is necessary and urgent, to promote the great cultural and historical values of the Dũng sĩ Điện Ngọc monument – the explanatory document emphasizes.
Reassessing Feasibility and Seeking Public Opinion
Before the proposal of Điện Bàn town, Chairman Lê Văn Dũng of the UBND of Quảng Nam province requested the locality to report and clarify the information related to the plan to dismantle the old monument and invest in the new project, and submit it to the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism before August 10, for compilation and advice.
In which, it is necessary to clarify the statement "the Dũng sĩ Điện Ngọc monument has deteriorated" and "the scale is no longer suitable for the surrounding landscape and infrastructure", to facilitate the consideration of the investment policy for dismantling and investing in the new monument.
At the same time, consider organizing public opinion to ensure consensus and unity in implementing the project.
“The town has assigned the Ban Quản lý đầu tư xây dựng thị xã Điện Bàn (the unit responsible for the project) to reassess the feasibility and appropriateness of the project to build a new monument for Dũng sĩ Điện Ngọc. At the same time, organize public opinion on this iconic work” – a leader of the UBND of Điện Bàn town said.
Artist and sculptor Đinh Gia Thắng, the author of the old Dũng sĩ Điện Ngọc monument, will continue to be selected to upgrade the new monument. According to the new plan, the monument's column will be 23m high, with a diameter of 16.9m, and the height of the soldiers will be 4.6m. The ratio of the human figure in the new monument is 2.5 times larger than that of the old monument.
