Comrade Tran Phu was born on May 1, 1904, in a family of patriotic Confucian intellectuals, hometown Duc Tho, Ha Tinh. He was an excellent student of President Ho Chi Minh and the first General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam at the age of 26 (in 1930).
In 1931, General Secretary Tran Phu was captured by the enemy in Saigon and had to endure all the cruel torture tactics of the enemy, but he remained faithful to the Party.
On September 6, 1931, comrade Tran Phu passed away at Cho Quan Hospital (Saigon).
In 1999, his grave was brought back to be buried in his hometown in Tung Anh commune, Duc Tho district, Ha Tinh province.
