Quit eating and drinking to "dig for Pi"
Talking to reporters from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh (Lao Cai) said that his mother also became a victim in the Pi Network project. Mr. Tuan said that this form is like multi-level, taking advantage of players' visits to get advertising money.
“Every day my mother participated, some days she stopped eating and drinking. The children who tried to stop her did not listen, until many people were tricked into posting by selling their accounts that she suddenly woke up" - Mr. Tuan Anh said.
It is known that Tuan Anh's mother is a retired worker. Elderly people who are idle, in addition to taking care of their grandchildren, have a group of grandparents in the neighborhood to exchange information and chat. A person in the Pi Network playing group shared it with many others to play.
According to Mr. Tuan Anh, most of the accounts in the Pi group are related to each other in order to "mislead" new participants, giving them the illusion that this currency is trading very actively, with high profit rates. high and will soon become a means of payment to buy cars, buy real estate... to buy their Pi.
Another case is Mr. Vu Anh Tuan (Cau Giay district, Hanoi) who started playing virtual currency Pi at the end of 2023. However, after about 1 year, he entered the application every day and became a victim of fraud. After stealing the Pi he earned, Mr. Tuan deleted the app.
Mr. Tuan said that he "mined" more than 1,200 Pi by clicking the "lightning icon" every day. By July 2023, his account was approved for identity authentication and members of the Zalo group "Sharing Pi investment experiences" revealed that Pi Network was about to run mainnet (where actual transactions are made). and store them publicly on the blockchain), the price of Pi will soon exceed over 9 million VND.
After that, a person in this Zalo group introduced someone who urgently needed to sell a quantity of Pi to pay off debt, the price was only 100,000-200,000 VND/Pi, the more you buy, the cheaper the price. Mr. Tuan decided to spend more than 10 million VND to buy this Pi number and then resell it.
"An account contacted me asking to buy my Pi number for 230,000 VND/Pi. They deposited me 1 million VND and asked me to share the wallet authentication screen. After that, I lost all the Pi in My wallet was lost, this buyer also blocked all contact with me" - Mr. Tuan recounted.
Potential risk of fraud
An expert in the field of digital currency said that currently, Pi Network is not on the Blockchain network, so the Pi produced on the application is only a symbolic number, with no trading value. Anyone can own Pi by simply installing the Pi Network application on their phone, logging in their information and clicking "lightning", similar to a regular game.
Most players start from delusion and hope that Pi will become the second Bitcoin currency, so they are deceived. Up to now, Pi has not been able to open the mainnet - where actual transactions are made and stored publicly on the blockchain. Even if the mainnet is opened, the price of this virtual currency will hardly increase suddenly because the number of Pi is infinite and not scarce.
Talking about fraudulent tricks, Lawyer Nguyen Trong Nghia, Hanoi Bar Association, said that when logging into the Pi mining app, users must definitely verify their identity such as full name, address, ID number. citizens... Personal information can be collected by subjects and sold or used for bad purposes. Not only that, using Pi to exchange goods and services also poses a potential risk of fraud and property appropriation such as promising deposits or attaching links containing malicious code.
In fact, the State Bank also continuously warns that virtual currency in general and Bitcoin and Litecoin in particular are not currencies and are not legal means of payment according to Vietnamese law. Therefore, based on the above regulations, electronic money is not a legal means of payment in Vietnam.
