Rare white-necked langur suddenly chases car on Ho Chi Minh road

Quang Tri - White-necked langurs suddenly chase and cling to cars on the Ho Chi Minh West branch, posing a risk of traffic unsafety.

On August 25, Mr. Pham Hong Khanh - Head of Truong Son Forest Protection Department (Truong Son commune, Quang Tri province) said that a white-necked douc langur, also known as Ha Tinh douc langur, had just appeared in the area, chasing people's cars.

Previously, on August 24, a resident traveling on the Ho Chi Minh Road West branch, passing through Khe Cat village (Truong Son commune), recorded the scene of a white-necked langur chasing a car moving on the road.

According to the clip, the langur continuously chased and clung to the car, causing the vehicle driver to slow down. Previously, in this area, people also discovered a white-necked langur sitting on the side of the road.

Mr. Pham Hong Khanh said that through monitoring, this area has a herd of white-necked langurs of about 20-30 individuals, each weighing 10-15kg.

Recently, some individuals in the herd have appeared on the road, sometimes running out onto the road or jumping on vehicles. However, no cases of langurs attacking or biting people have been recorded, causing danger to pedestrians.

To ensure safety for people and the douc langur herd, the Truong Son Forest Protection Department has coordinated with functional agencies to propagate and remind people not to hunt or set traps for douc langurs, but only to drive them away when douc langurs appear near the road.

At the same time, forest rangers continue to monitor the situation. If langurs continue to appear on the road, functional forces will warn people to limit the risk of incidents when moving on the road.
