On August 26, information from Tam Chung Commune People's Committee, Thanh Hoa province said that on the same morning, a positive taluy landslide occurred on the road from Muong Lat area to Nhi Son, passing through Can Tan Huong village, Tam Chung commune.
The volume of soil and rock landslides is estimated at more than 300,000m3, buried the road surface and causing traffic congestion.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dung - Chairman of Tam Chung Commune People's Committee - said that due to the impact of prolonged heavy rain, at about 6 am on the same day, a large amount of soil and rock from the positive slope suddenly slid down, burying the road.
According to Tam Chung Commune People's Committee, prolonged heavy rain from August 22nd to the morning of August 26th also caused many damages in the area.
The road from Suoi Long village to Sai Khao village has 3 landslide points with about 90m3 of soil and rock. Suoi Phai village Primary and Kindergarten points are temporarily flooded.
In Suoi Long village, a household of 5 people was affected by the landslide and has been evacuated to relatives' houses to ensure safety.
Floods also caused landslides of about 0.1ha of rice fields in Lat village; 310m2 of fish pond of 3 households in Can Tan Huong village was damaged; 1 medium-voltage power pole was broken and fallen.
Immediately after the natural disaster occurred, the Tam Chung Commune Civil Defense Command mobilized local forces, coordinated with the Commune Police, the Commune Military Command, Tam Chung Border Guard Station and people to urgently overcome the consequences and clear mud and soil at Suoi Phai village school point.
The locality also strengthens inspections of areas at risk of landslides, proactively evacuates people from dangerous places; installs warning signs, arranges traffic control forces and prepares vehicles to overcome incidents.
