Detailed route for gasoline and oil vehicles expected to be restricted from entering the center of Ho Chi Minh City

    Ho Chi Minh City plans to establish a low emission zone from July 1, 2027, gradually limit gasoline and oil vehicles and complete the conversion of vehicles to electricity and green energy by 2040.

    The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction is seeking opinions on the Project on controlling emissions of vehicles in Ho Chi Minh City.

    According to the project, the roadmap is organized in 4 areas including: Con Dao Special Zone; Binh Khanh, An Thoi Dong, Can Gio and Thanh An communes (old Can Gio district); low-emission zones in the city center area; and the remaining areas of Ho Chi Minh City.

    In the central area, Ho Chi Minh City is expected to pilot a low-emission zone (LEZ) from July 1, 2027, the initial scope includes the core central area of about 930ha and Thu Thiem New Urban Area. From 2029, the low-emission zone is expected to be expanded to the Ring Road 2 area of Ho Chi Minh City.

    By 2035, most vehicles operating in the LEZ in the center must use electricity or green energy.

    Meanwhile, the remaining areas of Ho Chi Minh City will implement a longer roadmap, expected to complete conversion by 2040.

    Con Dao Special Zone and Can Gio area are identified as priority areas for conversion due to environmental protection requirements and conditions for organizing management according to specific spaces.
