According to initial information, at around 8:40 PM on July 28, the SNT5 train, operated by engineer D.H.H. (33 years old, residing in Thanh Hoa province), was traveling in the North-South direction. When it reached the level crossing at Km1696 + 458 intersecting with Pham Van Thuan Street, it collided with the pickup truck with license plate 60C-597.05 driven by Mr. V.V.K. (49 years old, residing in Bien Hoa City) coming from an alley (without a barrier, in Tan Tien ward) alongside the railway track.
There were 4 people in the pickup truck at the time: Mr. V.V.K., Ms. M.P.P. (42 years old), N.V.N. (13 years old), and Mrs. N.T.U. (55 years old). Due to the strong impact from the train, the pickup truck was thrown into a garbage truck right in front of the entrance to alleys 1613 and 1615 (Quarter 3, Thong Nhat ward).
The accident resulted in the deaths of L.M.T. (23 years old, a garbage collector) and N.V.N. at the scene, while the remaining 3 people in the pickup truck were taken to the hospital by local residents.
