During the September 2nd holiday, travel demand from Ho Chi Minh City to provinces increased sharply. At the new Mien Dong Bus Station, many routes to the Central region are almost fully booked. Binh Tam company has run out of sleeper tickets for the Ho Chi Minh City - Quang Ngai route on the evening of August 28th and 29th; Chin Nghia bus company also only has a few tickets left. Phuong Trang said that it has added 150-300 buses, but the number of tickets to the Central region is not much left.
According to the passenger service plan for the September 2nd holiday, ticket prices at the new Mien Dong Bus Station and the old Mien Dong Bus Station, mainly on routes from Ho Chi Minh City to the Central, Central Highlands and Northern regions, are adjusted to increase by no more than 40% compared to normal days for 3 days, from August 28th to the end of August 30th, 2026.
For routes from Ho Chi Minh City to the Mekong Delta provinces, transport businesses are also allowed to adjust upwards by no more than 40% compared to normal day ticket prices, for 2 days. Meanwhile, in the Pham Ngu Lao street area, it is recorded that some bus companies operating outside the station have significantly higher ticket price increases than the adjustment at bus stations.
At the K.P bus company office on Pham Ngu Lao street, staff said that the 20-berth Limousine ticket increased from 400,000 VND to 800,000 VND/ticket, an increase of 100% compared to normal days. For 32-berth buses, the ticket price increased from 330,000 VND to 550,000 VND/ticket, equivalent to an increase of 66.7%.
Another bus company, H.G, also increased ticket prices sharply during the 5-day holiday 2. 9. Limousine tickets for 21 rooms increased from 410,000 VND to 880,000 VND/ticket, equivalent to an increase of 114.6%. According to Mr. Nguyen Lam Hai - Deputy Director of Mien Dong New Bus Station, some vehicles operate under the form of contracts but organize picking up and dropping off passengers and running according to schedules like fixed routes, creating unequal competition with businesses operating in accordance with regulations at the station.
According to Mr. Hai, businesses in the station must comply with regulations on routes, departure times, fares and service conditions, while vehicles outside the station are more flexible in terms of pick-up and drop-off points.
Representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction said that transport businesses operating in the station must declare ticket prices, send them to functional agencies and publicly announce them at both ends of the station. Functional agencies will strengthen inspection of ticket listing and sales and strictly handle cases of selling at wrong prices or not listing prices.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction informed that many units have abandoned their stations and switched to operating in the form of contract cars and tourist cars, causing difficulties for management due to unclear regulations and incomplete monitoring data systems. The Department has proposed to the Ministry of Construction to strengthen connection and data sharing to improve management efficiency and ensure fair competition.
The Department proposes to connect data on businesses, vehicles, registration, driver's licenses, VNeID, taxes and handle violations. Through this, functional agencies can verify the operating status of businesses, vehicles and drivers; check tax and insurance obligations; and automatically update cases of revocation of badges, licenses or violation penalties.
The Department also proposed building a real-time data sharing mechanism between agencies to serve monitoring, inspection, examination and timely handling of violations.
