At the press conference of the 17th Red Sunday Blood Donation Program - 2025, journalist Phung Cong Suong - Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper, Head of the Organizing Committee of Red Sunday 2025 - said: The greatest achievement after 16 years of organizing Red Sunday is that it has contributed greatly to changing people's awareness, especially young people, about donating blood to save lives. This is demonstrated by the fact that in the first year of implementing Red Sunday, only less than 100 units of blood were received. At that time, it was not because the blood donation force was less than today, but because people's awareness was limited about blood donation, about the story of blood shortage in hospitals. After 16 years of implementation, the Red Sunday Program has received more than 400,000 units of blood.
The program with the message "Donate blood to save people - Your life and mine" was started to be organized since 2009 in the context of blood shortage for emergency and treatment at medical facilities before and after the Lunar New Year. Realizing the urgency of having enough blood for transfusion at that time, Tien Phong Newspaper decided not only to stop at reporting to call for people to donate blood but also to be ready to become the organizer of this activity. The Red Sunday Blood Donation Festival in collaboration with the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion was born with the desire to bring a chance of life to patients during the approaching Tet holiday.
On December 29, at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the 17th Red Sunday blood donation program - 2025 will officially open. This year's program has the participation of many artists, singers, and beauties to contribute to spreading the humane message of donating blood to save lives.
To date, Red Sunday has spread to 55 provinces/cities across the country, receiving an average of about 55,000 units of blood annually.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ha Thanh - Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion - noted: "Thanks to the persistence of 16 Red Sunday events, the voluntary blood donation movement nationwide has become more and more influential, calling on many people from all walks of life to participate, the blood shortage during Tet is no longer as alarming as before.
Taking place in the middle of cold winter days, the Red Sunday festivals have never been deserted. All participants join together to create an enthusiastic atmosphere, coming to exchange human warmth and give gifts of life to countless lives.
