Reader Doan Phuong asked: "I am a bachelor of biology and want to work in the field of medical testing. Can I apply for a license to practice testing?"
Regarding this issue, the Ministry of Health responded as follows:
According to the provisions of Point d Clause 3 Article 127 Decree No. 96/2023/ND-CP detailing a number of articles of the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment:
"Article 127. Conditions on qualifications to be granted a practice license
... 3. For medical technical positions with the scope of medical testing practice:
... d) Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy at university level (including a graduation degree granted by a foreign educational institution recognized by the Minister of Education and Training as a university degree) and must be accompanied by a certificate or certificate of training in medical laboratory technology with a minimum training period of 03 months granted by a medical laboratory technology training institution or a postgraduate training degree in laboratory technology".
Thus, a person with a bachelor's degree in biology is granted a practice license with the professional title "Medical Technician" and the scope of practice "Medical Testing" when meeting the professional degree requirements specified in Point d, Clause 3, Article 127 of Decree No. 96/2023/ND-CP.
