On December 19, the Soc Trang Province Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital announced that the unit received a case of a 15-year-old male teenager named P (from My Xuyen District, Soc Trang Province) whose hand was crushed due to playing with homemade fireworks.
At the hospital, doctors noted that P had injuries to his arms and legs. The palm of his left hand had many wounds, the distal phalanges of fingers 1, 2, and 3 were severed, the remaining parts were crushed; fingers 4 and 5 had crushed soft tissue and complex bone fractures; many superficial wounds on the right hand and right lower leg.
After performing the necessary paraclinical tests, the doctors performed surgery to remove soft tissue wounds, create a stump, and treat broken bones...
After more than a week of treatment, the wounds recovered well and the patient was able to be discharged from the hospital. However, the damage to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd finger joints of the missing hand will affect his life and activities in the future.
According to the family, the incident occurred when everyone in the family heard a loud explosion in the back of the house. When they went down to check, they discovered many injuries on P's hands and feet, and several burnt matches were left in the area where P was sitting.
The family added that recently P often watched some videos on how to make homemade firecrackers online, then followed suit, leading to the unfortunate consequence above.
