On August 5, the Central Endocrinological Hospital announced that the Radioofrequency Ablation (RFA) technique has been applied for the first time in Vietnam to treat cervical rhinitis recurring after thyroid cancer surgery.
The procedure was successfully performed by a team directly led by MSc. Dr. Do Thanh Cong - Deputy Head of the Department of Technical Treatment.
This is a breakthrough in the treatment of cases of recurrent neck lotions after thyroid cancer surgery, when the lesion is deep, close to large blood vessels, difficult to access by traditional surgery - thereby opening up new expectations for many patients.
The patient is a male, 42 years old, who had undergone surgery to remove the entire thyroid gland and remove the cervical canal due to thyroid cancer 3 months ago. In a recent check-up, the imaging diagnostic results showed a recurrent metastasis located deep in the neck area, close to the internal artery and internal vein.
Complex location, accompanied by post-operative tissue sticking, makes surgery dangerous, posing a potential risk of damage to important structures in the neck area.
Sharing about the treatment choice, MSc. Dr. Do Thanh Cong said: For cases of deep recurrence of the duodenum, near large blood vessels or tracheal gland and tissue adherence after surgery like this patient, surgery has many potential risks. High- frequency wave burning techniques are a breakthrough solution, bringing high efficiency, safety and less encroachment".

Under the supersonic guidance, the crew used a specialized inject needle to accurately approach the tripe, applying moving-shot and separation pumping techniques ( hydrodissection) to protect the large blood vessels around.
The procedure was safe, the patient was alert, painless, had no complications and was discharged from the hospital the same day. The duodenum was completely destroyed by the heat impact of high waves, without the need for open surgery or prolonged hospitalization.
According to doctors, the successful application of RFA technique in the treatment of recurrent necklace after thyroid cancer not only affirms the professional capacity and ability to master modern technology of the Central Endocrinology Hospital, but also marks an important step forward in the treatment of recurrent cancer in Vietnam.
This will be a priority choice in the future for cases of recurrence that are difficult to intervene with open surgery, contributing to improving the quality of life and minimizing complications for patients.
