On the afternoon of August 5, the leader of Da Nang Hospital confirmed that L.A.K. (14 months old), who was abused by a nanny and thrown to the floor, did not survive due to a serious traumatic brain injury.
K. passed the 21st day of treatment at the emergency room - anesthesia and resuscitation department of Da Nang Hospital. But his health gradually declined.
By 5:00 p.m. the same day, the child's vital signs had gradually disappeared, the doctor reassured, encouraged the family and handed the child over to relatives to take home for funeral arrangements.
The leader of Da Nang Hospital said that the doctors and nurses were very saddened when K. passed away. In recent days, doctors have been racing every day, continuously monitoring and using the best medical interventions for treatment.
Although he was admitted to Da Nang Hospital, the tests and medical examinations showed poor results, K.'s traumatic brain injury was very serious, but doctors and nurses did not give up hope and actively treated him.
"Very sad and heartbreaking, we tried our best and did everything we could to save her life. But all efforts were in vain. The doctors at Da Nang Hospital share this great pain of the child's parents and family," said the leader of Da Nang Hospital.
As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, on August 1, the Investigation Police Agency of Quang Ngai Provincial Police initiated a case, prosecuted the accused and temporarily detained nanny Nguyen Thi Quyen (40 years old, residing in Cam Thanh Ward, Quang Ngai Province) for intentionally causing injury. Ms. Quyen was determined to have abused and thrown the 14-month-old baby to the brick floor, causing a traumatic brain injury.
According to the investigation, on the morning of July 16, Ms. Bui Thuy Mai P took her son, L.A.K (14 months old), to send to the Nhu Y private childcare facility (where Ms. Quyen directly cared for him).
After breakfast, K burst into tears and refused to sleep. While losing her cool, Mrs. Quyen held her and threw her child to the mattress on the floor.
When the child continued to crawl near the door and cried loudly, Mrs. Quyen continued to lift her armpits and threw the child a second time, causing her head to hit the hard brick floor. The strong throw caused K to vomit, convulse, and turn purple.
Mrs. Quyen took her child to Quang Ngai Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital for emergency care and informed the family that the child had fallen from the eating chair. Due to the serious injury, K was transferred to Da Nang in critical condition.
The family asked to show the camera of K's fall, but Ms. Quyen did not show the video. Suspecting that her child was being abused leading to injuries, the family reported to the police.
Immediately after receiving the case, the police examined the scene, extracted the camera, and took statements from witnesses. The results of the forensic examination from the Institute of Criminal Science (Ministry of Public Security) showed that K suffered a serious traumatic brain injury, sub- cardiac hemorrhage, and widespread brain damage with a rate of injuries of up to 47%.
Currently, nanny Nguyen Thi Quyen has been temporarily detained to serve the investigation.
