On October 26, Vinh Long police said they had just caught two men using an unregistered boat with a high-powered engine to illegally mine sand on the Co Chien River.
At around 0:15 a.m. on October 26, while patrolling the river, the police force of An Phuoc commune, Mang Thit district discovered these two men using a wooden boat as a means of illegally mining sand in the waters of Phu Hoa hamlet, An Phuoc commune, Mang Thit district.
Through investigation, the two men stated that they were Nguyen Thanh Nhan, born in 1984, residing in An Phuoc commune, Mang Thit district, and Le Phuoc Yen, born in 1974, residing in Long Hoa commune, Chau Thanh district, Tra Vinh province.
The two subjects used a 40-ton wooden boat without a registration number as a means of illegally mining sand.
At the time of inspection, these two people admitted to illegally mining sand and the vehicle had sucked up about 14.88m3 of sand.
Currently, the case is being further investigated by Mang Thit District Police to handle according to the provisions of law.
