Project entangled in acceptance for many years
In June 2026, the Khanh Hoa Agricultural and Transport Construction Investment Project Management Board sent a report to the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee regarding the handling of green trees growing along the river - belonging to the Tac - Quan Truong river downstream management project.
This project was approved by the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee in 2003.
After many adjustments, the project was deployed and completed in 2019, waiting for acceptance and handover for use.

To date, the project has not been able to complete acceptance procedures due to the appearance of two green strips, mainly mangrove trees, growing along the embankments on both sides of the Quan Truong River in Nam Nha Trang ward.
The row of trees stretches about 4-5km, not in the initially approved design documents.
The Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Agricultural and Transport Works has held a meeting with departments, branches, and localities to agree on a plan to clear and remove trees not in the design.
To date, the consulting unit has completed the handling plan. Accordingly, the cost of cutting down, unloading and transporting the above-mentioned green trees is estimated at about 572 million VND and is expected to be implemented before the 2026 rainy season.
The investor also proposed that the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee allow the use of the project's contingency funds to carry out clearing and removing trees...
Many opinions want to keep it
In the process of collecting opinions on the handling plan, some agencies and local people expressed their desire to keep the mangrove trees along the Quan Truong River.

At the end of 2025, the People's Committee of Nam Nha Trang ward had a document contributing opinions sent to the investor.
The locality agreed to propose keeping the two mangrove trees to contribute to creating green space, improving the landscape and living environment for the Ring Road 2 area, as well as harmoniously connecting with Vo Nguyen Giap road.
Not only local authorities, many households living along both sides of the downstream Quan Truong River have also not agreed with the plan to cut down all the trees.
According to people, the current mangrove strip not only helps reduce heat and create a green landscape, but also becomes a habitat for many birds and aquatic creatures.
Ms. Thanh Tam, a resident of Nam Nha Trang ward, said that the special thing is that the entire row of trees is formed completely naturally, without using state budget for investment or care.
A ward leader in Nha Trang area also said that what makes people worried is not simply the loss of a row of green trees, but also the risk of disappearance of an inundated ecosystem that has formed itself in a densely populated urban area.
According to this leader, while many localities have to spend tens, even hundreds of billions of VND to plant trees and restore ecosystems but are not sure to succeed, in the Quan Truong River, nature has created a green strip along the river with significant landscape and environmental value.
Therefore, if we have to cut down all these trees, it is really regrettable.
