Notes when designing and arranging the kitchen for convenience and safety

When designing a kitchen, priority should be given to safety, ventilation, hygiene, convenient operation and suitability to the actual area.

The kitchen area floor should not be significantly higher than the living room or bedroom floor. In terms of function, this arrangement helps limit water from the kitchen area overflowing into other spaces, while creating convenience when moving between the kitchen and the dining room and living room. If the design has a height difference, it is necessary to arrange transition steps reasonably, at a moderate height and with a sliding surface to limit the risk of tripping, especially when holding food or items.

The kitchen is an area that regularly uses water, heat and electrical equipment, so it needs to be arranged to be ventilated but not create too strong wind directly into the cooking area. Windows and doors should be calculated in appropriate positions to ensure ventilation, reduce heat, food odor and humidity. The cooking stove should also not be placed in a position that obstructs the walkway or is too close to the door, in order to limit collisions during use.

When choosing colors for kitchen cabinets, tables and interior details, priority should be given to colors that create a clean, comfortable feeling and are suitable for the overall house. Red or overly bright colors can create a visually stimulating feeling, especially in spaces with high temperatures and frequent use of bright light. Dark colors, especially on large surfaces, can also easily reveal dust, grease or make the kitchen feel more cramped if there is a lack of light. Therefore, color choice should be based on area, light and hygiene needs instead of feng shui concepts.

Mirrors or large reflective surfaces should not be placed directly opposite the stove. In terms of practical use, glass and mirror surfaces can reflect light, heat or moving images, causing discomfort when cooking. Glass surfaces in the kitchen also need to be selected and installed appropriately to avoid grease, difficulty cleaning or glare when direct light shines.

The kitchen area should limit sharp corners protruding in frequent walkways. This is more about safety than feng shui, because sharp corners of cabinets, tables or shelves can cause impacts, especially with young children. You can use rounded design, reasonable interior layout or use edge protection solutions to reduce the risk of injury.

Similarly, the position of the dining table, chairs and operating area in the kitchen should be calculated so as not to obstruct the walkway or be located directly under low components that cause inconvenience. The distance between the stove, sink, refrigerator and the preliminary processing area should also be reasonably organized, helping to reduce the travel distance and limit the risk of burns and breaks during cooking.
