Many houses and land abandoned in the heart of the city
Along the busiest central streets of Da Nang city such as Hung Vuong, Tran Phu or Bach Dang, it is not difficult for people to encounter public housing areas in a state of vacancy. After the process of arranging, merging and streamlining the apparatus, hundreds of headquarters from the ward level to departments, boards, and branches have become redundant. Instead of being converted into functions or put into operation to generate revenue for the budget, many locations have become deserted spots right in the heart of the city. This situation not only causes urban unsightliness but also causes serious waste of land resources.
Witnessing the prime land plots being abandoned, Mr. Hoang Minh Hoa, a resident of Hai Chau ward, expressed his impatience. According to Mr. Hoa, the surplus of headquarters after merging administrative units is inevitable, but the city should not let this situation drag on year after year.
Mr. Hoa proposed: "The city needs to urgently review to have a plan to use these land areas for appropriate purposes, avoiding the degradation of state assets, causing waste." He also hoped that these "golden land" areas would soon be converted into public works serving public interests such as health or education.

Converting functions, effectively exploiting public assets
Faced with the reality of wasting public assets, Da Nang city is planning to exploit these abandoned headquarters. According to statistics, the locality currently has more than 800 real estate facilities that need to be reviewed and handled. Talking about the implementation roadmap, Mr. Ho Ngoc Phuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Finance of Da Nang city, affirmed that the locality is focusing on classifying to have a plan to handle them thoroughly.
Mr. Phuong said: "For eligible establishments, the Finance sector will advise the City People's Committee to implement functional conversion to the purpose of public housing or prioritize arranging for medical, educational and cultural units that still lack operating space".

Also according to the leader of the Department of Finance, for land plots that no longer need public use, the city will assign housing management and land fund development centers to organize auctions or leases according to the provisions of law to recover the budget. In 2026, the city plans to put into operation 119 land and housing facilities with a total area of more than 135,600 square meters.
Many people hope that the local government needs to thoroughly solve the wastefulness situation, and at the same time create important economic resources to reinvest in social infrastructure, contributing to the sustainable development of Da Nang city in the future.
