Accordingly, at noon on April 28, after the controversial line "ripe rice is tall but never bows", male musician Chau Dang Khoa admitted that allowing controversy to occur was regrettable.
He said that he had recorded all comments from the audience and quickly made adjustments. "Last night, I proactively rewrote the new lyrics for that line, hoping that the song would be spread more fully in the spirit of love, pride and solidarity of Vietnamese people," Chau Dang Khoa shared.
Sharing with reporters, the male singer said that he is always receptive and listens to the audience's feedback. The recent incident is something he feels regretful and apologizes for his shortcomings.
In recent days, the song performed by Hoa Minzy and Cam Ly has attracted attention when it was released on the occasion of a major holiday in the country.
The work quickly spread on digital platforms, receiving many positive feedbacks about the melody, image and the combination of the two voices. However, besides that, the song also caused controversy because of the line "ripe rice is tall but never bows".
A part of the audience believes that this image goes against the familiar concept in Asian culture - where "ripe rice bow" is considered a symbol of humility. The reversal of meaning makes many people feel that the message becomes deviant, even understood as encouraging arrogance or wrong in terms of life knowledge.
Before the opposing opinions, musician Chau Dang Khoa spoke up to explain that the lyrics were written with a different symbolic meaning. According to him, "not bowing your head" here is not to deny humility but to emphasize the spirit of not submitting to adversity, expressing national spirit and self-esteem.
However, this opinion was not accepted by public opinion and audiences.
