Ho Chi Minh City sharply increases compensation for nearly 4,000 households subject to clearance

HCMC - More than 2,200 households in Binh Thanh and Go Vap, along with more than 1,600 households in District 8, received increased compensation when their land was cleared to renovate Xuyen Tam canal and the northern bank of Doi canal.

Increase compensation by nearly 10,000 billion VND

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Council has just approved a policy to increase nearly VND10,000 billion in compensation and site clearance for two projects to renovate Xuyen Tam canal and the northern bank of Doi canal, according to the new policy of the 2024 Land Law.

At the Xuyen Tam canal renovation project, there are 2,260 cases affected by clearance, most of which are in Binh Thanh district (2,122 cases), and Go Vap district has 138 cases.

The cost of compensation and resettlement for these households increased from more than VND6,500 billion to nearly VND14,000 billion, considered the largest compensation ever for a canal renovation project in Ho Chi Minh City.

Similarly, at the project to renovate the North bank of the Doi Canal (District 8), about 1,633 cases were affected by clearance. Previously, the total compensation and resettlement cost for this project was about 3,500 billion VND. However, when applying the new land price list according to the 2024 Land Law, the cost of payment and support for people is expected to increase to more than 6,000 billion VND, an increase of 2,485 billion VND compared to before.

Resettlement plan for people

At the Xuyen Tam canal project through Binh Thanh district, out of 2,122 cases of clearance, 1,273 households had to be completely relocated. A representative of Binh Thanh district said that they had prepared about 300 resettlement houses (including 258 apartments and 42 plots of land) for eligible households.

The city also plans to build a social housing area at 4 Phan Chu Trinh (Ward 12, Binh Thanh District) with an area of ​​over 12,000 m² and 850 apartments to resettle households whose land was cleared.

In Go Vap District, there are 40 cases of complete clearance and 14 cases with small remaining land areas after clearance, requiring resettlement. The Go Vap District leaders said that resettlement apartments have been prepared for these households at Gia Khang apartment building (Ward 14).

With the project to renovate the North bank of the Doi Canal, about 1,023 households will be completely cleared. According to the sociological survey results of District 8, 443 households agreed to be resettled, while 123 households have yet to comment.

District 8 People's Committee has proposed the Department of Construction to propose the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to consider and approve the plan to buy apartments for resettlement for the dredging project, infrastructure construction and environmental improvement of the North bank of Doi Canal.

Accordingly, District 8 proposed that Ho Chi Minh City allow investors to advance capital to buy 315 apartments at Hung Phat Social Housing Area (Ward 6, District 8) and 242 apartments at Resco apartment building (No. 481 Ben Ba Dinh, District 8).
