According to The Guardian, Tomas Rosicky is emerging as the leading candidate for the position of sporting director at Arsenal. Discussions are still ongoing but everything can only take place after everything is closed when the 2024/2025 season ends.
The 44-year-old is understood to still be in touch with Arsenal's hierarchy. Tomas Rosicky was a teammate of head coach Mikel Arteta and academy director Per Metresacker. The three are now in regular contact and regularly discuss the team's situation.
Jason Ayto, Deputy Director of Sport, has been taking over the position left by Edu Gaspar since November. The Gunners' board had wanted to promote Jason Ayto but were concerned about his lack of experience for the position. Tomas Rosicky is a more suitable option.
Rosicky spent 10 years with Arsenal. The 44-year-old made 170 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 28 goals and providing 23 assists. The former Czech player had a good attitude and always gave his all, despite often having to sit on the bench.
After retiring, Rosicky returned to his boyhood club Sparta Prague to start working off the pitch. He started as assistant sporting director for the club in January 2018. Since December 2018, Tomas Rosicky has been promoted to sporting director for Sparta Prague.
In addition to Tomas Rosicky, other names such as Luis Campos (Paris Saint-Germain) or Phil Giles (Brentford) were also linked. However, Arsenal's board of directors preferred to appoint someone closer to the club.
