Arsenal hosted Man City late on February 2 in the 24th round of the Premier League. The big match turned into a nightmare for The Citizens when they conceded after only 103 seconds. Martin Odegaard easily put the ball into an empty net after a lack of coordination between John Stones and Manuel Akanji.
Despite being behind, Man City tried very hard to find opportunities. In the beginning of the second half, from Savinho's pass, Erling Haaland headed the equalizer for the visitors. But less than 2 minutes later, Thomas Partey put Arsenal ahead with a difficult long-range shot.
In the 67th minute, Lewis-Skelly skillfully dribbled past goalkeeper Ortega. At 18 years and 129 days, he became the youngest player to score in the Premier League against the reigning champions since Wayne Rooney (17 years and 150 days) scored for Everton against Arsenal in March 2003.
This goal clearly dampened the spirit of The Citizens. In the remaining minutes, Kai Havertz and substitute Nwaneri added their names to the scoreboard, sealing a 5-1 victory for the Gunners.
City have shown major weaknesses in defence. They have now made eight errors leading to goals in the Premier League this season, the most in any season under Guardiola. The road ahead will not be any easier as they face Newcastle, Liverpool and Tottenham; as well as a Champions League play-off against Real Madrid this month.
On the other side, Arsenal consolidated their second place in the table, continuing to maintain a 6-point gap with Liverpool in the championship race.
