Malaysian football awaits FIFA's verdict, may face disadvantages

MINH PHONG |

The Football Association of Malaysia may face a disadvantage after FIFA issued a final conclusion on the case of naturalized players in violation of regulations.

On the afternoon of October 30, General Secretary of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Windsor John shared about the incident of naturalized Malaysian players. Notably, Mr. Windsor's statements show an unfavorable situation for Malaysian football.

"Whether the decision comes from the FIFA Appeal Committee or the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), we consider it the final decision. When FIFA finalizes the conclusion, the dossier will be transferred to AFC for consideration and action in accordance with that decision," said the AFC General Secretary.

According to him, the AFC Disciplinary Committee will receive documents from FIFA to determine violations, then the level of handling will depend entirely on the content handed over.

Previously, the AFC had stated that the penalty was indicated after FAM completed the appeal process. However, with a new statement, the organization showed its readiness to handle the matter as soon as FIFA has a conclusion.

Mr. Windsor John also explained that there are two separate files, one from the FIFA Disciplinary Committee and the other from the FIFA Football Court. However, the Asian Football Confederation only considers issues related to player status, because that is the scope managed by the AFC.

Although no conclusions have been announced, Windsor John said the AFC will fully comply with FIFA's decision.

Regarding this incident, according to the Malaysian press, the possibility of FAM failing in the appeal is very high and the official ruling of FIFA is expected to be announced on October 31.
