According to statistics, Bryan Mbeumo had a rather slow start at Manchester United. The Cameroonian striker has only scored 1 goal in 5 matches, compared to 4 goals in the same period last season for The Bees. However, if you ask M.U fans who is the most outstanding player in this deadlocked season, most will mention Mbeumo.
Mbeumo has brought vitality to Man United's lackluster attack with his speed, power and delicate touches. In the opening match, he and Matheus Cunha caused Arsenal a miserable defeat, and then became the spearhead in the thrilling victory over Burnley. It is no surprise that the 26-year-old striker was named the club's Best Player of the Month for August.
In the derby against Manchester City, Mbeumo was still a bright spot, almost making it fair with a dangerous volley if Gianluigi Donnarumma had not made a miraculous save. He also played brilliantly in the 2-1 win over Chelsea, although he did not directly score or assist.

However, the "Red Devils" still expect more from Mbeumo. He needs to quickly recreate the goal-scoring instinct that the team has invested heavily in to achieve. And there is no better opportunity for Mbeumo to prove his worth, than the trip back to Brentford this weekend.
The value of Mbeumo is not in numbers
Mbeumo has only scored 1 goal in the Premier League this season, but that does not accurately reflect his efforts. The Cameroonian striker averaged 3 shots per match, except for a quiet performance against Fulham.
In the remaining matches, he always played proactively, not afraid of collisions and fought for each ball.
His former Brentford manager Thomas Frank affirmed in 2023: "His dedication to the team is incredible. Not many wingers work so hard and meaningfully. He is always a player who competes to steal the ball, ready to rush up to get the ball".
Ruben Amorim, the current captain of Man United, also acknowledged the special value that Mbeumo brings. After the win over Burnley - the only goal Mbeumo scored in - Amorim commented: "It's impressive that he stretched the team, the quality in the first touches was different. Last season, we had difficulty at this point."

Not only bringing momentum to the playing style, Mbeumo's enthusiasm also spread to both teammates and fans. Amorim emphasized: "From the first minutes, you can feel the atmosphere is completely different. Not only playing well, but the cheers of the fans when we pressed, won the ball, accelerated to get a corner kick".
Mbeumo needs more support
At Brentford, Mbeumo always plays alongside quality partners. After a period of collaboration with Ollie Watkins and Said Benrahma, he and Ivan Toney became the main striker pair.
The duo have made a big contribution to the Premier League, including a 4-0 win over Man United under Erik ten Hag.
When Toney was suspended, Mbeumo quickly found a new companion, Yoane Wissa. This duo left a strong impression with a total of 80 goals after 2 seasons, in the 2024-2025 season alone Mbeumo contributed 20 goals and 7 assists, while Wissa had 19 goals and 4 assists.
The two also maintained a close friendship off the pitch. "I need support and love to play my best football. I am very lucky to have Wissa, who always motivates and wished me good things" - Mbeumo shared.
