On the evening of November 23, Chelsea traveled to Leicester's home ground in round 12 of the Premier League. This is the first time coach Maresca has returned to his former home side King Power after leaving the hot seat in the summer.
Chelsea had a very smooth start when they opened the scoring in the 15th minute. After a defensive mistake by Wout Faes, Jackson received the ball in the penalty area, skillfully dribbled past and shot into the far corner.
The Blues had many more chances in the first half but could not take advantage. Most notably, Cucurella's goal was disallowed for offside.
In the second half, the away team continued to control the game. It was not until the 75th minute that they scored a second goal, when Enzo Fernandez headed the ball dangerously in the penalty area.
In extra time, the Foxes were awarded a penalty after De Cordova-Reid was fouled in the 16m50 area. On the 11m mark, Jordan Ayew successfully converted to shorten the score for the home team.
However, there was too little time left for Leicester to equalize. In the end, Chelsea won 2-1 and consolidated their 3rd place in the rankings. They have played one more game than the others but a good goal difference could help the Blues maintain this position after round 12.
