In round 14 of the Premier League, Arsenal hosted Man United at home. In a fairly balanced match, the Gunners still managed to score 2 goals. In the end, Arsenal won 2-0 and made coach Amorim suffer his first defeat at M.U.
In this match, coach Mikel Arteta used the midfield trio of Martin Odegaard, Thomas Partey and Declan Rice. They had a not-so-stellar first half. It was not until Jorginho entered the field in the second half that the Gunners rose up and scored 2 consecutive goals from corner kicks.
Jorginho is helping Arsenal play better, according to former Man United player Gary Neville. He told The Overlap: “My opinion may be controversial, but I think Arsenal play better with Jorginho in place of Thomas Partey. We saw that last year when Arteta allowed Jorginho to play in a more dominant role. He helped the team dominate.
I like Jorginho there. I think they are a better team, especially in terms of the way they play. He knows how to play there and Declan Rice will be there to cover around him.”
Arsenal legend Ian Wright also agreed with Neville's opinion: "Because Jorginho is still playing well, you should use him as a starter. Then when he is out of form, put Partey on the field to replace him."
Jorginho has only played 6 Premier League games this season, starting 4 times. Despite his ability to control the ball, Arteta has not trusted him because of his lack of strength. On average, Jorginho only wins 1.6 duels per game, a number far below Partey's 5.5.
