Lao Cai - Many landslides and subsidence points on the Sa Pa Airport bypass road make it difficult for people to travel.

After the storm and flood, on Provincial Road 151C, the section avoiding Sa Pa Airport, in Cam Con commune, Bao Yen district, a series of landslides and subsidence appeared, affecting people's movement.

On December 12, at the above-mentioned bypass, according to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, along the 3km long road, there were many large landslides, some of which almost completely buried the people's path.

According to local residents, to get through this path, there is no other way but to go through the piles of rocks and soil lying in the middle of the road. More seriously, there are also several landslides on the route with a length of tens of meters, eating up more than half of the road.

With the naked eye, cracks can be seen along the road, posing a potential risk of further landslides.

It is known that this is a new route running along the Red River to replace the old Provincial Road 151C, the section through Cam Con commune is being constructed to serve the travel of people in the resettlement area of Sa Pa Airport and neighboring areas.

Because the landslides are mostly located on the negative slope, remediation is difficult.

Ms. Bui Thi Van (residing in Cam Con commune, Bao Yen district) shared: "I often travel on this route, the landslide has been happening for several months now. After the storm and flood, the road was deeply eroded, buried with rocks and soil, making it difficult for people to move around."

According to local authorities, the Sa Pa Airport construction project with an investment capital of nearly 7,000 billion VND will be implemented along Provincial Road 151C and the Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway. Therefore, this bypass is being built for people in the commune and resettlement areas to travel.

People hope that landslide repair will be carried out soon to clear the route and ensure safety for people's travel.

Regarding this issue, speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper, Chairman of Cam Con Commune People's Committee Ho Viet Hung said: "On the Sa Pa Airport bypass road through the commune, there are 4-5 landslides. The cause is the impact of storm No. 3.

We have warned and informed people to limit travel on this route to ensure safety."

The leader of Lao Cai Province's Department of Transport informed that the Sa Pa Airport project could not be implemented because it could not find a partner despite two bidding invitations. The reason was that businesses found the investment capital to be large and it was difficult to make a profit, so they did not do it.

"We are striving to attract investors so that we can start the project in early 2025," the representative added.
