In the early morning of March 7 (Vietnam time), General Director of the English Football Association (FA), Mr. Mark Bullingham confirmed that Mason Greenwood has submitted an application to change the team and will play for Jamaica.
The former Man United star is eligible to wear the Jamaica shirt through his father, who was born in this Caribbean country.
The 23-year-old has only been called up to the England team once, in September 2020, when he was under 21 years old. This allowed him to change the national team according to FIFA rules.
With the private scandals that broke out in January 2022, he no longer has the chance to return to the Three Lions. He was charged with attempted rape, control and forced marriage, assault causing injury and spent a year banned from playing at Man United, but all allegations were dropped in February 2023.
Jamaica is currently led by former England manager Steve McClaren. Greenwood is expected to debut for the Jamaica team in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Africa in June.
Greenwood continues his career at Marseille after leaving Man United last year. Here, he had an impressive season, scoring 15 goals in 24 Ligue 1 matches. There are rumors that PSG are interested in this striker and want to recruit him in the summer.
