On the evening of October 26, Man City hosted Southampton in round 9 of the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium. Due to having to play in the Champions League in the middle of the week, The Citizens players started the match quite slowly.
In the 5th minute, Matheus Nunes crossed the ball for Erling Haaland to score from a position that was almost touching the ground. He was marked by the opposing defender but still managed to finish.
This is also Nunes' 4th assist this season, notably all 4 passes found Haaland.
After the opening goal, it seemed like the game would be easier for Man City, but they were stuck in attack.
On the other side, the visitors struggled with possession and failed to muster a shot until the end of the first half, when Cameron Archer hit the crossbar after a mistake from the home defence. That was Southampton's warning and City approached the second half with great determination.
However, the Citizens' strikers were quite unlucky, they shot 22 times but could not score any more goals. The tense atmosphere covered Etihad when the 1-0 gap was too fragile, but fortunately they still preserved the result until the final whistle.
Pep Guardiola's side are currently the only team yet to lose after nine games and are currently top of the table ahead of Liverpool's clash with Arsenal on Sunday.
On the contrary, the visitors have not won any match since the beginning of the tournament (1 draw, 8 losses). They continue to stand at the bottom of the rankings after this round.
