The two clubs have become familiar opponents in recent years. They are all competing fiercely in the race for the Brazilian domestic championship in the last 2/3 seasons.
Now, both teams are aiming for glory at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. Previously, Palmeiras and Botafogo performed relatively well in the group stage.

Two of the last three meetings between the two teams have ended in a draw, including a goalless draw at the end of March. We have to go back nearly 2 years ago (November 2023) to find the last time Palmeiras defeated Botafogo. And they have gone 5 matches without a win against their opponents.
This is only the second time there has been a clash between Brazilian teams at the FIFA Club World Cup. That was before the old-style final in 2000 - a goalless draw between Corinthians and Vasco da Gama. In the end, Corinthians won 4-3 on penalties.
