On the evening of June 28, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Ha - Chief of Office, spokesperson of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee - confirmed that the provincial authorities did not agree with the idea of building the "Ao Co National Monument" project in Cau Da beach area, Tran Phu street, Nha Trang city.
According to Mr. Ha, the company's idea is not only not in accordance with current planning, but also poses a potential risk of affecting the environment, natural landscape and ecosystem in Nha Trang Bay area.
Previously, implementing the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Finance received, studied the dossier and reported on the above project proposal.
The project is proposed by HCM57 Technology Company Limited (headquartered in Nha Trang City), with a scale of about 20 hectares of sea surface, 257m from shore.
It is expected to build a floating island to place a cluster of statues "Quoc Mau Au Co" with a total height of 257m (including a 57m high pedestal, a 200m high statue and a 200m high flagpole). Connecting the statue island and the mainland will be a long bridge leading from Cau Da beach.
In addition to the statue, the enterprise also proposed to build a system of restaurants, shopping malls, high-end hotels at the bottom of the sea and tourist attractions and check-in spots with ticket sales. The total estimated investment capital is about 1.53 billion USD, with implementation period from 2026 to 2028.
However, through review, the authorities confirmed that the proposed location is not in accordance with the Khanh Hoa Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister.
The project is also not in accordance with the Nha Trang City Master Plan adjustment project to 2040, as well as the Zoning Plan (scale 1/2,000) of Phuoc Long - Vinh Truong - Vinh Nguyen area approved by the Provincial People's Committee.
