Mohamed Salah has chosen Trabzonspor as his next destination in his career. The Liverpool legend joined the Turkish team on a free transfer after his contract with the Anfield club expired.
Salah has arrived in Turkey to complete the signing procedures and was photographed by the club in his new jersey before the official debut ceremony. He will wear jersey number 61 at Trabzonspor.
Salah's move to the Super Lig surprised many people, because the 34-year-old striker had an impressive 2024-2025 season with 29 goals and 18 assists in the Premier League.
However, in his last season in Liverpool's colors, Salah only scored 7 goals in the domestic league. His playing time also decreased significantly after disagreements with coach Arne Slot, making the opportunity to find a top destination in Europe limited.
Previously, many sources said that Salah could move to the Saudi Pro League, MLS or join a big European team to continue fighting in the Champions League.
Many of his former teammates at Liverpool such as Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have gone to Saudi Arabia to play, while Lionel Messi and Son Heung-min are outstanding MLS stars. Kevin De Bruyne also joined Napoli after leaving Manchester City last summer.
Compared to the "big guys" of Turkish football such as Galatasaray, Fenerbahce or Besiktas, Trabzonspor is not highly rated for its attractiveness. Trabzonspor is considered the fourth biggest force in Turkish football. They have won the national championship seven times, most recently in the 2021-2022 season. Under the guidance of coach Fatih Tekke, Trabzonspor finished in third place in the Super Lig last season, after Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.
However, this team is still not sure of a place in the Europa League group stage when they have to overcome the play-off round taking place this month.
Salah immediately became the most sensational signing in Trabzonspor history. His appearance created a big fever when thousands of fans were present to welcome the Egyptian striker.
Before Salah, Trabzonspor successfully recruited former Premier League players such as Daniel Sturridge and Nicolas Pepe.
Trabzonspor's current squad also includes goalkeeper Andre Onana, who is playing on loan from Manchester United, and two Cape Verdean players, Wagner Pina and Sidny Lopes Cabral, who scored against Argentina at the 2026 World Cup.
Joining on a free transfer helps Trabzonspor have the conditions to spend most of the budget on Salah's salary. Previously, the Egyptian striker was said to receive about 400,000 pounds per week in his final contract with Liverpool.

Before completing the deal, Salah appeared in a video filmed on his private jet and sent a message to fans: "Trabzon, are you ready? See you soon".
