Last Sunday, in the Super Lig, Fenerbahce made an incredible comeback against Trabzonspor with a score of 3-2. The excitement reached its peak when Sofyan Amrabat scored the winning goal in the 12th minute of injury time in the second half.
Too emotional, captain Jose Mourinho celebrated as if his team had just won the championship. Not only that, the "Special One"'s celebration was also performed in front of the home team's fans. This action made many Trabzonspor fans feel irritated.
After the match, Mourinho said his team had to fight against VAR. The Portuguese coach also "taunted" VAR referee Atilla Karaoglan, saying that he went to drink Turkish tea instead of focusing on watching the match.
The reason Mourinho made such sarcastic and angry statements was because his team opened the score, then the opponent took the lead 2-1 with 2 consecutive penalties. Not only that, the 61-year-old strategist also affirmed that Fenerbahce should have been awarded a penalty before Amrabat sealed the victory in injury time.
"In my opinion, the best player in this match must be Atilla Karaoglan. Looking back, I don't believe the whole team won against such powerful players" - Mourinho told beIN Sport after the match.
The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) later said Mourinho's comments were "contrary to the spirit, ethics of sports, spirit of fair-play, damaging the reputation of TFF, aiming to reduce the value of Turkish football, casting a shadow and discrediting referees and other match officials".
Mourinho's excessive celebration was also classified as "unsporting" by the TFF. For now, the Fenerbahce captain will be temporarily suspended from the match against Sivasspor this Sunday. Not only that, Mourinho is also banned from the team's dressing room.
The 61-year-old was also fined 58,500 Turkish lira (around £1,300) for provoking Trabzonspor fans, followed by a 600,000 lira (£13,500) fine for comments attacking referees and Super Lig officials.
Joining Mourinho was Fenerbahce vice-president Acun Ilicali, who was fined 400,000 lira (£9,000) after criticising the match referee on Fenerbahce's official website. The TFF said the action "crossed the line of freedom of speech".
After a thrilling win over Trabzonspor, Fenerbahce remain firmly in third place in the Super Lig standings. They have 23 points after 10 games, five points behind leaders Galatasaray. Second-placed Samsunspor has 25 points.
There are now rumours of Jose Mourinho returning to the Premier League as he is being targeted by Newcastle if The Magpies sack Eddie Howe. This rumour was first reported before the Portuguese tactician chose Fenerbahce.
