De Gea had a very amateur day
In the previous 19-match unbeaten streak of the "Red Devils" in all competitions, the Spanish goalkeeper contributed greatly. He was the final fulcrum of the patchwork defense and still had great flights as usual. However, it seems that poor preparation in terms of psychology has led to a poor result against Chelsea.
In the first goal, De Gea made an unusual and superficial save. Azpilicueta's cross-field strength was not strong but M.U's "goalkeeper" stood watching for Giroud to run up and cushion the ball easily. If the M.U star had been more decisive, he could have won the ball first.
In the second goal, the fault was entirely De Gea's. Mount's 23m shot was very gentle. The M.U goalkeeper himself took the initiative to lean forward to receive the ball but cracked the ball so hard that the ball missed the 5 fingertips. Outside the pitch, coach Solskjaer sat quietly in the stands.
Is Harry Maguire a £80 million "broker"?
In the draw with Southampton, Maguire crushed his teammate Wan-Bissaka in the decisive situation that led to a last-minute goal. Early this morning, due to not paying attention, he pointed straight at his teammate Bailly's head, forcing the central defender to leave the field on a stretcher suspected of a collarbone disease.
All three of Man United's goals were due to Maguire. He was the one who missed the ball in the cross at the end of the first half from Azpilicueta and let Giroud open the scoring. Maguire himself could not cut the ball neatly when Chelsea's Rudiger rushed in the third goal, leading to the English midfielder becoming the one to " burn the home net".
The most blamed goal was the second goal, it was unclear what Maguire discussed with Lindelof, causing both of them to stand still and watch Mount run straight into the middle and launch a shot. And M.U had to pay the price for the captain's mistake.
Defense is likely to create a champion
Sir Alex once said "scoring helps you win but defending helps you win the championship". Man United are currently doing quite well in the run up to the FA Cup semi-final. The "Red Devils" do not deserve to be champions when possessing defensive stars with such a relaxed style of play.
This is a very difficult problem for Ole Solskjaer to solve when he has many defensive stars but none are experienced enough. The season cannot be transferred at this time, no matter how curved or straight, Ole has to accept and score.
The draw with Southampton and the loss to Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-finals sounded the alarm about the remaining final stage. Leicester fell to Tottenham but the "Red Devils" were not complacent because the match schedule was easy to breathe in the near future.
Another draw or loss, every effort of the whole season can become a success.
