Overview
Coventry is one of only two teams in the Premier League that has not won any points after three rounds, along with Fulham.
Frank Lampard's team is facing the risk of re-establishing a sad milestone in 107-year history, when in the 1919-1920 season they had only lost all 4 opening matches.
Despite losing everything, Coventry still left many positive signals in the previous round when they only lost to Man City 0-1. The CBS home team created many dangerous opportunities, forcing Gianluigi Donnarumma to save many times and even almost make the Italian goalkeeper score an own goal.
However, almost goal-scoring chances could not bring points for Coventry. This team is still looking for their first clean sheet in this season in all competitions.
However, history still brings some hope for Coventry. Crystal Palace lost all 4 of the first matches of the 2017-2018 season without scoring a single goal, but in the end still finished the season in 11th place.
Meanwhile, Brighton had a rather erratic start with 1 win, 1 draw and 1 defeat after three rounds. After crushing Aston Villa 4-0 and losing to Chelsea 3-4 in an emotional match, Fabian Hurzeler's team drew with Leeds United 1-1 in the most recent round.
Brighton is currently in the upper half of the table thanks to goal difference, ranked above both Man United and Sunderland.
However, away form is what Hurzeler is worried about. Brighton have lost all 3 of their most recent away matches in the Premier League and have never lost in four consecutive away games in the league since the period before 2019.
Head-to-head history also leans towards Brighton. The last time the two teams met was in the FA Cup season 2017-2018, when Brighton won 3-1 against Coventry.
Personnel situation
Coventry's squad will be supplemented with Stephen Mfuni, a defender currently on loan from Man City. This player is eligible to return after failing to play against his club in the previous round.
However, Haji Wright (legs), Kaine Kesler-Hayden (legs), Josh Eccles and Luke Woolfenden (knees) will still have to be out of action for the next few weeks. Newcomer Sidiki Cherif is also not in his best physical condition and has not been registered for the match against Man City.
Two players who came on from the bench, Loum Tchaouna and Ellis Simms, both missed favorable opportunities to help Coventry equalize. Therefore, Frank Lampard is likely to continue to use the trio Ephron Mason-Clark, Jack Rudoni and Taiwo Awoniyi in the starting lineup.
On Brighton's side, the injury situation is still quite worrying. Yankuba Minteh (calf), Kaoru Mitoma (brother), Jack Hinshelwood, Mats Wieffer (knee), Stefanos Tzimas (knee), Evan Ferguson (ankle) and Zadok Yohanna are still sidelined.
However, Brighton may welcome the return of Femi Azeez after a thigh injury and Georginio Rutter after ankle problems. Michael Svoboda is also likely to recover from a knee injury in time to participate in the match.
Expected lineup:
Coventry City: Rushworth, Amenda, Thomas, Pinnock, Van Ewijk, Grimes, Onyeka, Dasilva, Rudoni, Mason-Clark, Awoniyi.
Verbruggen, Kadioglu, Dunk, Vuskovic, Boscagli, Gross, Ayari, Gomez, Yalcouye, De Cuyper, Kostoulas.
The match between Coventry City and Brighton takes place at 8:00 PM on September 13th (Vietnam time).
